Taylor Sheridan Brings ‘Yellowstone’ Magic to Texas Town
Coming soon to a TV near you, another Taylor Sheridan show that's bound to be another hit set in Texas. If you're a fan of Yellowstone, then you already know the entire lore of the Dutton family and how, even though the hit show has ended, there are still more stories to tell. Now, the latest spin-off has found a home in the Lone Star state.
It’s no surprise the latest Yellowstone spin-off has found a home in Texas; creator Taylor Sheridan has practically turned the Lone Star State into his personal backlot and is a huge advocate for Texas turning into a filming destination.
Sheridan has made Texas a central character in much of his work, from the gritty Fort Worth–filmed oil drama Landman to the high-stakes ranch life of 1883, shot across multiple Texas locations. He’s also used the state as a backdrop for Lawmen: Bass Reeves and several other Paramount+ projects, steadily building a television empire rooted in authentic Western settings.

Over the past few years, Sheridan has expanded his footprint by leasing multiple production studios in North Texas, ensuring his growing slate of shows keeps Texas in the spotlight- and on viewers’ screens around the world.
Now, Sheridan is adding another pin to his Texas map, the small North Texas town of Ferris. With a population just over 5,000, Ferris is about to step into the national spotlight as the primary filming location for his new Paramount+ series Rio Palo. According to the city’s August 7 announcement, the production will highlight Ferris’ small-town charm while bringing an economic boost to the community. Crews will transform local spots into the heart of the story, with additional filming planned in nearby towns like Cleburne, Weatherford, and Rio Vista, and even a reported stop in Mineral Wells.
While the exact plot and cast of Rio Palo are still under wraps, Ferris’ starring role marks another win for Texas’ growing presence in the television world. If Sheridan’s past hits are any clue, viewers can expect sweeping Lone Star landscapes, plenty of Western grit, and a story that puts Texas front and center for audiences far beyond state lines.
