(KMDL-FM) The United States Department of Agriculture has issued a recall notice that could affect many Louisiana families. One of the products in question features meals prepared in a "Cajun Style". Some of the recalled products are also sold at Walmart stores in Louisiana. Foods prepared with Cajun spices are quite popular here. And, Walmart is one of Louisiana's favorite places to shop.

Walmart is not the only retailer included in the most recent recall notice from the USDA. Trader Joe's and some of the products sold through their outlets were also included in the September 25th health notice. The concern in each of these food recall cases is the potential for contaminated products to reach consumers in their homes.

What Are The Symptoms of a Listeria Infection?

The health concern, according to the USDA Health Notice, is Listeria contamination. There have been several other recalls of late involving Listeria and possible Listeria contamination. Those who are infected with the bacteria have reported symptoms such as a fever, muscle aches, headaches, and gastrointestinal issues as well.

In some cases, those infected with Listeria can experience confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions, which is why a Listeria infection can be very problematic for the elderly, the very young, and those who have compromised immune systems.

Which Frozen Ready-to-Eat Meals Have Been Recalled?

Officials with the Department of Agriculture expressed concerns that these frozen meals could be stashed away in consumers' freezers. The products in question sold at Trader Joe's have "Best if Used By Dates" of September 20, September 24, and September 27.

The product raising concern for Walmart shoppers is the Marketside Linguine with Beef Meatballs and Marinara Sauce. Those products have a "Best if Used By" date of September 22, September 24, September 25, September 29, September 30, and October 1.

Health officials say if you have any of the recalled products in your home, do not consume them. Instead, you are encouraged to return the items to the point of purchase, Walmart or Trader Joe's, where you should be able to get either a replacement product or a refund of your money.
