Where’s Our Waffle House In Deep East Texas?

There will always be a list of things that we wish would come into our area. It's just because one place can't have everything. That's just a fact of life.

However, there are times when you look at something and go, "(Fill in store, attraction, etc. here) would be PERFECT for this area." Well, I've been saying that for years for one such addition, and we STILL don't have one in our area. And when I say area, I mean our entire region.

What am I talking about? I'm talking about Waffle House.

If you go to the Waffle House website, there's a nifty "Find a Store" tool. You put in your location, and it pulls up the nearest locations. For example, I put in "Nacogdoches, TX" and the closest location is in Longview. LONGVIEW. There's not a Waffle House in the entire Deep East Texas region. The next closest one after that is in Marshall, then it's a bit of a toss-up between a location in Corsicana and one in Silsbee, depending on where you're driving from...

Do you know how disappointing that is? If I want an order of their "smothered and covered" hashbrowns, I have to plan an entire road trip just to go get them. Not that I'm opposed to a road trip for them, but it would be a lot more convenient to have a location just five or 10 minutes down the road.

Plus, wouldn't it make sense to put a 24/7 diner option in, especially with a university town in our area? I can't tell you how many times in college my friends and I were looking for a snack in the middle of the night. See? If we had a Waffle House, we could just jet right on down the street.

But, as of right now, it doesn't look like there are any plans to open one anytime soon. So, I'll just remember when there was one - yes, just one - lone location on the south side of Nacogdoches...
