Rebecca Attaway is the Founder of Polk County Talk, and this Week’s Community Rockstar

It's Friday once again, which means that it's time to reveal another Community Rockstar! This week's rockstar is located in Polk County, but thanks to the connectivity of social media, her presence is felt all over Deep East Texas.

Rebecca Attaway is the newest addition to the Community Rockstar list. Rebecca is the founder of Polk County Talk, a Facebook group that has more than 79,000 members. But, like the nomination we received says, her story goes way beyond just a Facebook group.

According to the nomination we received about Rebecca, "She is a working mother, entrepreneur, community advocate and lifelong believer in showing up for people." They went on to say that "Rececca has always had a strong connection to her community and a passion for helping people."

Through this community platform that she has built she is making sure that the community, her community, still has a voice. They said, "She works to verify information before sharing it, gives local residents a place to ask questions and find answers, promotes local businesses and community organizations, highlights events and resources, and brings attention to issues that matter to the people who live here." What's more, is that the community has also taken notice of the work that she is doing. She has already received a Best of Polk County Community Activist nomination.

I think that the way they wrapped up the nomination sums it up best: They said that Rebecca "has spent years proving that being a community rockstar does not necessarily mean standing on a stage. Sometimes it means being the person behind the scenes who keeps showing up, keeps listening, keeps asking questions and keeps fight for the place and people she loves." And that is what makes Rebecca Attaway this week's Deep East Texas Community Rockstar.
