Could Nacogdoches Support a BJ’s Wholesale Club Location?

Lots of jokes around Nacogdoches tend to be about H-E-B. Things like, "When's H-E-B coming to town?" or "That's why we'll never have H-E-B here again." or even, "I heard that new 10x10 storage shed on the side of the road is actually the new H-E-B coming to town..." are all things that you'll probably hear when discussing the grocery store chain. But here's a thought: What if we changed the discussion, and instead of looking only for an H-E-B, we looked into a wholesale club that we don't have around here?

BJ's Wholesale Club

While traveling in north Texas recently, I came across a wholesale store chain that I had never heard of before. It was called BJ's Wholesale Club. Now, I'm very familiar with Sam's Club, since that's all we've had in Deep East Texas. I'm also familiar with Costco, the other big wholesale club name. But I had never heard of BJ's.

It turns out, BJ's is very similar to the other clubs mentioned above. You have to have a membership to shop there. You can buy things in bulk, whether it's paper goods, produce or groceries. The big difference? It's not here.

Could Nacogdoches Support BJ's Wholesale Club?

So, that's the question. Would BJ's work in Nacogdoches? Let's face it. Lufkin has Sam's already, so to put another Sam's wouldn't make much sense. As far as size, well, Costco tends to be in locations considerably bigger than Nacogdoches, so I don't know that it would wind up here.

According to the BJ's Wholesale Club website, out of over 265 locations, only five of them are in Texas, and they're all around the DFW area. Specifically, they're located in Forney, Fort Worth, Grand Prairie, Mesquite and Waxahachie. So, that could either be a positive for Nacogdoches - since there aren't any out this way - or it could be a negative for Nacogdoches - same reason.

What are your thoughts? Could Nacogdoches be a possibility for BJ's Wholesale Club? Or would it be a bad idea?
