What Deep East Texans Are Hoping to NOT Deal With This Year
There are tons of reasons to live in Deep East Texas. It's not a major metropolitan area, the landscape is phenomenal, cost of living is cheaper...I could go on and on. But, one of the other major reasons is because of the weather. Specifically, the lack of that aggravating, white, frozen precipitation, or "snow" for short.
We don't do well with that weather. We're strong people, but snow might as well be our kryptonite...
Remember Snowmageddon?
2021 was proof that Deep East Texas natives do not do well with the weather that our fellow Americans from up north deal with on a regular basis. All I have to do is mention the word "Snowmageddon" and Deep East Texans all over just shudder. We were not, and I'd venture to say, are STILL not ready to deal with temperatures hitting the sub-zero mark, plus having to worry about snow.

Businesses were shut down for days, people were confined to homes, electricity was out, it was a mess. Then, there were the people that actually ventured out into the snow, proving that we don't know how to drive on icy roads. There were cars in ditches, abandoned at the bottom of hills because they couldn't get traction on the ice...it was a mess!
Hoping Against Snow this Year
So far, winter this year has been very mild. We've only had one night - that I can remember - with temperatures dipping into the upper 20s. Now, I know that Snowmageddon and other snow days usually show up in late January or February, so we haven't really reached that point yet. But we usually have cooler temperatures than we've seen so far. I mean, it was 80° on Christmas Day!
Needless to say, I'm keeping an eye on the weather forecasts, as I'm sure all of you are doing, too. We're just hoping to avoid the snow altogether in 2026. It's only "pretty" for about 10 minutes, just long enough to snap a couple pics, and then we want it gone.
