Joe Smith Jr, 53 of Diboll, and a 13-year-old boy whose name has not been released were pronounced dead at the scene by the Justice of Peace.  Smith was traveling eastbound on FM 1818 in a 2015 Ford Expedition around 8 AM.

Passing a vehicle in heavy fog led to a head-on crash with a 1997 Ford Ranger approximately 3 miles east of FM 58. Smith was trying to pass the vehicle in front of him, but failed to do so safely.
