Texas School District Lets Students Clear THC Vape Felony

(KNUE-FM) Most Texans understand that making mistakes as you grow up is just part of the learning process. While students know right from wrong, some of them test the boundaries, and end up in serious trouble. For years we have known that some high school kids experiment with marijuana, but in Texas that could mean a kid leaves high school with a felony charge. But one Texas school district is trying to change that.

What the First-Offender Program Is

The details came from KVUE, talking about Round Rock ISD giving students a chance to clear their record from possessing a THC vape on campus. This first-time offender program gives the opportunity to clear the felony charge from their record if they complete education courses and complete regular check-ins with their school resource officer.

Requirements to Clear a THC Vape Felony

Part of the punishment also includes writing a 500-word essay on what they learned through the program. They will also take a healthy lifestyle course which teaches students about both the physiological and psychological effects of drug use.

After everything is completed, there will be a one-year probationary period requiring good academic standing. The program doesn’t cost money but must be done with a parent or guardian.

Similar Programs in Other Districts

Hutto ISD launched a similar program with the Williamson County Juvenile Services in June of 2025, with good results so far.
