A South Texas man was recently sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for sexually exploiting a pregnant 16-year-old immigrant who he was also trafficking.

The Suspect Pleaded Guilty

According to KXAN, 30-year-old, Luis Andres Serna pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a minor in addition to human transportation and drug conspiracy charges.

Suspect Arrested Back in 2022

Law enforcement reports that Serna was arrested on April 5th, 2022, as he was accompanied by an undocumented immigrant, they say he picked up in downtown Laredo, Texas.

At the time of his arrest his passenger was a 16-year-old pregnant minor.

The Investigation Snowballed After His Arrest

After the initial arrest was made, law enforcement raided Serna’s apartment building and found 37 undocumented immigrants and over 1,000 kilos of marijuana.

The drugs and undocumented immigrants were spread out in several apartments all connected to Serna.

During Serna’s trial the teen girl admitted to giving birth to a child that she claimed was fathered by Serna.

While in federal custody Serna continued to contact the minor, he was initiating video calls that were sexual in nature.

Due to hard working law enforcement officers Serna can no longer sexually exploit minors or continue trafficking people or drugs.

Hopefully this is a reminder to any criminal in Texas that you will be held responsible for any laws you break in the Lone Star State.

Hearing about a crime like this is a reminder of some of the evil that takes place in Texas even when we don’t see it ourselves.
