Egg Prices In Texas Are High, But This Mistake Is Illegal
Grocery bills are high in Texas as they are across the country. And one of the biggest increases comes from raw eggs.
We learned in January that egg prices are high due to an ongoing bird flu outbreak that has been causing huge issues on poultry farms.
This is causing a higher-than-normal demand and less of a supply for consumers.
Over 58 million birds were affected by the flu making it one of the worst in our nation's history.
Egg prices have gone up for us, while farmers have had to deal with some harsh realities due to the outbreak.
What About Getting Eggs from Mexico?
There are lots of farmers in Mexico, what about getting raw eggs from our neighbors to the south? Don’t even think about it.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection is urging travelers to leave all raw eggs in Mexico as they are prohibited from entering the United States.
One border patrol office has seen a 158% increase in egg interceptions compared to the numbers recorded in 2024.
Which is why more reminders are being issued about not bringing eggs to the U.S. as they could create a potential disease risk.
The Punishment is Severe
If you’re caught attempting to bring eggs to the U.S. can come with a serious punishment including a fine up to $10,000.
It’s important to remember that you need to declare all agricultural products to CBP officers and agricultural specialists.
It’s all about the safety of people in the U.S. and making sure our egg troubles don’t get any more scrambled.
