
TxDOT Pauses Nacogdoches Traffic Light Removal After Hearing From Locals
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is suspending plans to
remove the traffic signal at the intersection of North Street and Lloyd Street in
Nacogdoches. According to a press release, removing the traffic light in the future is still a possibility pending additional studies.

Officials with TxDOT will soon start working with a consultant to perform an in-depth study of traffic patterns along the entire Business 59 (North/South Street) corridor. The goal is to come up with a detailed and comprehensive solution to address the aging infrastructure of the roadway, along with its increased congestion

What Led To The Lloyd Street Traffic Light Reversal?
According to Tim Mozingo, Public Information Officer with TxDOT/Lufkin District, the decision to leave the signal in place, pending the study’s results, was made based on input from Nacogdoches citizens, city officials, and stakeholders.
Capital improvement projects, both in progress and planned at Stephen F. Austin State University, were also taken into consideration.
From June 17 through July 3, TxDOT received 20 comments from the public expressing
both support and opposition for removing the signal. Several common themes were apparent in the comments from both sides, including traffic safety, the impact on schools and surrounding businesses, pedestrian safety, and traffic flow.
When Will A Final Decision Be Made On The Lloyd Street Light?
TxDOT officials are currently working on a timeline for the study as well as a short-term and long-term plans for Lloyd Street and many other Business 59 intersections.
This information will be released to the public once these details are finalized.
