Nearly $1Million in Cocaine Sniffed Out By Nacogdoches’ Newest K-9 Officer

Milo is the newest K-9 to join the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office, and he's already making a huge impact. He assisted deputies on Tuesday morning with the seizure of 46 kilograms of cocaine, a bust that took approximately $920,000 worth of drugs off the streets.

How The Capture Played Out

On Tuesday (9/8), a Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Deputy stopped a white Nissan SUV for two traffic violations on SW Stallings Drive. Two males and one female occupied the vehicle. After speaking with the driver and occupants, the officer became suspicious of criminal activity based on their behavior and conflicting statements. The deputy was denied consent to search the motor vehicle. Because of suspicions of criminal activity, the deputy removed K-9 Milo from the patrol unit and conducted a free air search around the vehicle.

K-9 Milo Gives Officers A Reason To Search

K-9 Milo alerted to the presence of narcotics coming from the vehicle, which gave deputies probable cause to search the vehicle. During the K-9 search, Milo alerted to the vehicle's trunk area. Deputies searched the motor vehicle and later found a false compartment in the SUV's trunk. During the search, deputies observed that the rear of the vehicle had been altered and had two hydraulic cylinders wired to a switch that raised the compartment for access. Once access was gained to the false compartment, deputies found 46 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside the car.

Deputies arrested all three subjects at the scene and transported them to the Nacogdoches County Jail without incident. Andre Nelson, 65, from Georgia, Antonio Colon, 46, from Illinois, and Latrisha Crims, 32, from Humble, Texas, were booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail and charged with Manufacturing or Delivery of a controlled substance, a 1st-degree felony.  Bond was set at $500,000 for each suspect on this charge and unlawful use of a criminal instrument, a 2nd-degree felony. Bond was set at $50,000 for each suspect on this charge.
