Texas High School Football Game Called Off Due To Social Media Threat
Thursday night's varsity football game between the San Antonio Burbank Bulldogs and the Luling Eagles was cancelled several hours before kickoff due to a social media threat.
What Was The Nature of The Threat?
According to a post on the Luling ISD Facebook page, Superintendent Erin Warren revealed that a social media message on a San Antonio Burbank High School account made a threat concerning Thursday night's non-district football game, which was scheduled to take place in Luling.
A post explaining the cancellation was also made on the Burbank High School Facebook page; however, neither post gave details on the nature of the threat.
I would think that the disturbing events across our country over the past several weeks, understandably, played a part in the abundance of caution surrounding the decision to cancel.
Law enforcement from Lufkin, Caldwell County, and the Texas DPS immediately responded to the Luling campus this afternoon to investigate the credibility of the threat as well as its source.
Two Major Reasons You May Have Heard of Luling
Luling has quite a bit of history associated with it when it comes to Buc-ee's. The town, situated on Interstate 10, was home to the world's first Buc-ee's large-format travel center. It opened in 2003.
Then, in June 2024, the ribbon was cut to a remodeled store at the same location. At 75,000 square feet, it is the largest Buc-ee's in the world.

Luling is also home to one of the most unique festivals in Texas. The Luling Watermelon Thump has been a yearly summer festival since 1954. It features live music, food, events, and the famous watermelon seed spitting contest.
