Lufkin-Area Drivers Warned Of New Lane Closures This Week

Despite this brutal East Texas heat, numerous road construction projects continue across the Lufkin District of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). Officials are advising motorists of projects that may require detours, delays, and lane closures over the next several days.

Highway 59 in Nacogdoches

Intermittent lane closures on the northbound lanes of Highway 59 south of Nacogdoches are planned overnight on Tuesday, August 11. The contractor will install overhead signs and support structures near Spradley Street after 11 p.m. The work will require that both northbound lanes south of Spradley Street be closed and reopened periodically throughout the night and early morning hours for worker safety. Motorists should plan for delays or seek alternate routes.

Champions Drive in Lufkin

The City of Lufkin is reporting that the roadway from 5515 Champions Drive to Temple Boulevard will undergo roadway overlay work on August 11 and 12. During this construction period, all vehicles must be removed from the roadway. Parking will not be allowed along the affected section. The road will remain open to traffic, but drivers should expect one-lane traffic at times and brief delays as crews work in the area. The area affected is indicated in the map below.

Loop 287 in Lufkin

Throughout this week, crews will perform ditch work and stripe the westbound main lane of Loop 287 between the Highway 59 intersection and Feagin Drive. The Feagin ramp will remain closed this week.

Highway 59, Redland Project

This week, work crews will lay hot mix and set bridge beams in this construction area just north of Lufkin. A flagger will direct traffic on the northbound frontage while beams are lifted into position. Concrete paving will occur overnight.

 Business 59/First Street in Lufkin

This week, overnight work will see the laying of hot mix along with final striping operations. Lane closures will occur periodically.

Remember to obey all traffic signs and pay attention to instructions given by on-scene road crews.  Traffic violations that occur within work zones bring hefty fines.
