
Zavalla, Chireno, and Broaddus Shine In Latest State Rankings
Last year, the Zavalla Lady Eagles, Chireno Lady Owls, and Broaddus Lady Bulldogs all advanced to the UIL Texas Basketball Playoffs. This season, it looks like all three teams are picking up right where they left off. In the latest state basketball rankings released by TABC Hoops, those three East Texas teams find themselves getting due recognition.
Chireno Lady Owls
Chireno is looking to advance to the playoffs for the 8th straight season. They are currently ranked #10 in Texas in Class 2A with a record of 17-4. The Lady Owls have several quality wins this season, including victories over LaPoyner, Bullard, Huntington, and San Augustine.
Broaddus Lady Bulldogs
Broaddus is the defending Class 1A - Division 1 state champs. Judging by their play this season, the Lady Bulldogs have their sights set on back-to-back state titles. Broaddus is 20-5 on the season and ranked #14 in Texas. Broaddus has played a tough non-district schedule, which includes a couple of victories over Class 2A, 10th-ranked Chireno.

Zavalla Lady Eagles
Last year, Zavalla rolled all the way to the Class 1A - Division 2 state semifinals. This season, the Lady Eagles are 20-3 and ranked #5 in Texas. Zavalla and Broaddus will face each other twice in district play. The first showdown will take place on January 16 in Zavalla, and it should be epic.
