East Texas Radio Says Farewell to Longtime K-FOX DJ Dan Patrick
After leaving his mark on East Texas radio for the past 30+ years, Dan Patrick is leaving K-FOX 95.5. He is the station's Brand Manager and afternoon drive air personality, and Friday, August 22, was his last day on the radio station.
Dan Patrick Is A Rarity in Radio Broadcasting
Take a look at the resumes of almost any career radio DJ, and they will include a multitude of stops. It's not uncommon for an air personality to spend 3-5 years at a station before moving on to another market; in fact, that's usually the rule rather than the exception.
Not only has Dan been at one station (K-FOX) since the 1990s, but he has spent his entire radio career in his hometown. That's a major double-rarity!

The Radio DJ Myth
One of the biggest myths about being a radio DJ is that your normal day consists of being on the air for a few hours and that's it. That's a far cry from the truth.
I've worked with Dan Patrick for over 3 decades, and a 60 to 80-hour work week is about the norm. Our stations are on the air 24/7, and we are in charge of maintaining, planning, and creating the content you hear.
Over the past few years, that includes all things digital, such as writing for and giving direction to our websites, social media portals, apps, and more.
The Station's Gatekeeper
In a nutshell, the job of a radio station's brand manager is to be the gatekeeper of content. Over the past 30+ years, Dan Patrick has been unwavering in living up to that duty.
I've watched Dan be meticulous in making sure that every on-air and online element properly reflects the K-FOX brand. He has been steadfast in standing up for the brand even when faced with directives that he feels would do more harm than good.
I know that I join thousands of Dan's friends and fans in wishing him and his wife the best in their next chapter.
Until we see (or hear) you again, thank you for all you've done for K-FOX and this East Texas community!
