You may have been one of the many Texas residents who was stirred from their sleep early this morning when your phone's alert system was triggered.

The Department of Public Safety activated a Blue Alert before 5 this morning. A Blue Alert is used when officials are actively searching for a suspect (or suspects) who is wanted in the killing or serious injury of a law enforcement officer.

The Texas Blue Alert was activated for the fugitive, Seth Altman, 33. The suspect reportedly shot a police officer in Memphis, Texas. The town of about 2,000 people is located around 80 southeast of Amarillo in the Panhandle.

According to a report, the officer was shot numerous times and was flown to a hospital. No details have been released on the officer's condition.

Another report indicated that it was the police chief of Memphis who was shot, but that has not been verified.

Seth Altman is 6 feet, 2 inches tall, weighs about 220 pounds, and has red hair and blue eyes. The suspect was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt with blue jeans.

No information has been released on what type of vehicle Altman may be in nor in which direction he may be traveling. If you see this fugitive or have any information on his location, please get in touch with law enforcement authorities immediately. DO NOT attempt to approach or apprehend Altman, he is considered armed and dangerous.
