Nacogdoches Mutton Busting Concludes With Two 90+ Point Rides
There were some great rides Friday and Saturday during the mutton busting competition at the Nacogdoches Pro Rodeo. 15 young cowboys and cowgirls between the ages of 3-7 were drawn to ride each night.
On Friday, the last 3 rides of the night took the top 3 places. Matthew Thompson from Central Heights rode Q-Tip for 83 points. The next rider was Cooper Van Dyke of Nacogdoches. He rodeo Rambo for 84 points. However, it was younger sibling Nash Van Dyke who rode Highway 59 for the top score of 86 points.
On Saturday night, two riders had 90+ point rides. The first rider out of the chute was Cambry Hurst of Nacogdoches. The 6-year-old cowgirl rode Storm Cloud for 95 points.
Just a few riders later, Ellie Hernandez took the lead and never gave it up riding Q-Tip for 96 points. Later in the competition, Rawzyn Blanton from Nacogdoches rode Ewesemite Sam for 83 points, good for third overall.

A big shout-out to the sponsor who made the mutton-busting competition possible. Event sponsors included KICKS 105 Radio and Deep East Texas Electric Cooperative. Justin also deserves a big pat on the back for providing the protective vests and helmets for the riders.
Thanks to Boot Barn in Nacogdoches for hosting the registration. Splash Kingdom played a big role by providing passes to our riders. Global Inspection Services and Richard Riggins Ranch also deserve a big thanks for their major roles in the event.
